2009 Tony Awards Nominations

The act that received that most nominations, with an insane 15 nods is called Billy Elliot, the Musical. The only other show that came close was Next to Normal, with an impressive 11 nominations.

Also making a lot of noise at the 2009 Tony Awards is Next to Normal, whose cast is expected to perform live on
tonight’s show. Next to Normal, is about the plight of a mother with bipolar disorder, who tries desperately to minimize the effects of her condition on her family. Next to Normal’s director was also responsible for the direction of the infamous rock musical, RENT.

The 2009 Tony Awards, a ceremony that gives recognition to the best live theatre performances in America will be broadcasted tonight at 8PM (est) on CBS.
