Election rumours untrue, says Fraser

MIRAMICHI
- You won't see Miramichi-Bay du Vin MLA Bill Fraser out on the campaign trail this summer.

That's because despite talk from members of the opposition the Liberal MLA said there isn't an early election coming.

"There certainly isn't an election call that I'm aware of."

New Brunswick has a fixed election date for provincial elections, with the next one slated for Sept. 27, 2010.

The issue of Fraser possibly campaigning arose after L'Acadie Nouvelle ran a story Friday in which they pointed to door hangers Fraser leaves behind when he visits constituents as a possible sign of an early election.

The hangers feature a picture of Fraser, his constituency office contact information and a simple "Sorry I missed you" message in both French and English.

Fraser said he has been using them to let people know he was there if he missed them at home.

"I'm not doing anything different than when I first got elected."

Last week he was heading to his car in Fredericton when a Progressive Conservative MLA saw the door hangers in his car.

From there speculation started that it was campaign material for door-to-door election canvessing, but Fraser said he visits constituents regardless of whether or not there is an election.

"I don't think that should be done only at election time. I think it should be done all the time."
