Jose Canseco 's mixed martial arts debut lasted just over a minute Tuesday, as the Korean giant Hong Man Choi knocked him to the ground and pummeled him the way everyone expected he would at the Dream 9 tournament in Japan.
Canseco threw a hard right punch and a hard right kick in the first few seconds of the fight, and the 7-foot-2 Choi appeared to be surprised that Canseco was even fighting with him. But after that a left jab from Choi sent Canseco reeling, and he spent a short time just trying not to get hit before Choi knocked him to the ground and pounded him a few more times. Once Choi was hitting him on the ground, Canseco tapped out to avoid getting hurt.
The bizarre Canseco vs. Choi fight was part of the Dream MMA promotion's "Super Hulk Tournament," a tournament that consisted of a series of fights matching up fighters with enormous size differences between them -- the kinds of fights that Japanese fans love, but that American athletic commissions would never alow. Choi will move on to the Super Hulk Tournament's second round, while Canseco will head home with another quick paycheck.
